Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a teacher and a writer. Both came to be, though not in the way I expected. I thought I would teach elementary school—I taught in corporate America and then through the Foundation for the Holy Spirit and Awakening Together. I thought I would write fiction—I wrote corporate courses, then spiritual books, journals, and courses.
I formally retired from Awakening Together a few years ago. Since then, the teaching muscle has slowly weakened and possibly even died. I don’t seem to have the gift of gab anymore.
The writing has not stopped. My first project after retiring was translating the Tao Te Ching directly from ancient Chinese—the result being Tao Te Ching: A Translation to Live By.
Shortly after that, an idea came to me for a novel. It was inspired by the mountain I see out the window of my meditation room, Greenhorn Mountain, named for an 18th-century Comanche chief, Cuerno Verde. Since there is not much information about him, I became intrigued by the idea of creating him as a fictional character. As I played with that, a second character entered my mind: a young French woman named Claire, who became the novel’s protagonist. I saw her as a Clare of Assisi of sorts, more different than alike, yet inspired by the saint. And a historical novel about awakening began to take shape. It took three years from conception to publication for Claire of the Shifting Winds, and I am still in the final stages of preparing for its November 30, 2026, release.
There is another novel already forming in my mind. Like Claire, it has a spiritual backbone. It’s a historical novel based on the Tao Te Ching. Again, I expect at least three years from conception to publication, if not longer.
That’s why I created ReginaDawnAkersBooks.com as my new author website. I will use it to introduce these books to potential readers. Since it is an author website rather than a spiritual teaching website, I will post news about my books and reviews of the books I’m reading. You can also expect a light vein of spiritual teaching, which I will post as Musings. You can still find my spiritual teachings through Awakening Together on their website and YouTube channel.
